Star Wars Unlimited looks to be off to a promising start with Set 1, Spark of the Rebellion, kicking things off with Luke, Vader, Leia, and more.
Developer Fantasy Flight Games has already confirmed that there are nine sets that have already been planned, meaning with any luck this exciting new card game isn’t going anywhere.
The second set, Shadows of the Galaxy, has already been revealed, and while there’s not a huge deal we know about it we’ve started picking up the best bits of info like a Jawa scavenging for scraps.
When is Shadows of the Galaxy coming to Star Wars Unlimited?
While other card games drop new sets and products at an almost overwhelming pace (we’re looking at you Magic: The Gathering), Star Wars Unlimited appears to be settling into a slower rhythm – and we’re thankful for it (a surprise to be sure).
That means we can expect Shadows of the Galaxy in July 2024, as per Cardgamer.com.
That’s four months on from the launch of Spark of the Rebellion, so we can expect around four months between sets, it appears.
Shadows of the Galaxy theming and characters
According to Jeremy Zwirn in an interview at PAX Unplugged last year, the first few sets will be focused on the Original Trilogy.
He goes on to confirm that Shadows of the Galaxy will see us collecting smugglers and bounty hunters to add to our decks, but stops short of specifics. He also acknowledges that some sets will be themed but actually offer surprising inclusions that don’t necessarily mix with that theme.
With 252 cards in set 1, how many can we expect in set 2? Well, according to a podcast appearance from Xander Tabler, Community Engagement Specialist at Fantasy Flight Games, it could be the same number again.
While he doesn’t say a number, the host of the Golden Dice podcast suggests the number, and Tabler doesn’t move to correct him.
At GAMA in Louisville, we saw some slick-looking accessories from GameGenic including Deck Boxes for The Mandalorian and Moff Gideon – both confirmed to be leaders of the Set 2 starter set (which also confirms another starter set is coming). Rey and Kylo Ren are also getting deckboxes, while Rancor is getting game mats – but that doesn’t guarantee they’ll have cards in Shadows of the Galaxy.
The same event also revealed Bad Batch is one of the themes for Set 2, as per the tweet below:
Given we already have Boba Fett and Han Solo, as well as Jabba and Bib Fortuna, we could see the team pull from the wider lore for our next bunch of scruffy-looking Nerf Herders. Here’s hoping for Dengar so we can round out the Empire Strikes Back rogues gallery.
That’s all we know so far about Shadows of the Galaxy. As soon as we get any peep from our underground contacts in the smuggling world, we’ll be sure to update this page, so keep checking back.
